Email - MAPI
What is MAPI?
Short for Messaging Application Programming Interface, a
system built into Microsoft Windows that
enables different applications to
work together to distribute email. Basically this means that Easy View can connect
to your MAPI compliant email program and send an email through your program.
Common examples of MAPI compliant email programs are Outlook and Outlook
Express from Microsoft.
Setting up Easy View to work with your MAPI email program
As long as your email program is set up and working, there are no additional
settings required by Easy View.
Advantages of MAPI
- Little or no configuration required
- Use your existing email program that you are already used to working
with
- Copy of the messages is saved in your 'Sent' folder.
Disadvantages of MAPI
- Your email program must be running to send the emails from Easy View.
Although this is not generally a problem when running reports manually
it can be an issue when running reports automatically from the 'Report
Scheduler'.
- Newer email programs have increased security to help prevent unauthorized
sending of email. Easy View will still work with these programs but many
times an extra step may be required.
- Does not work with the Easy View Scheduler service.
